Yesterday my calendar notified me that summer has officially ended. Here in Western Montana, as if on cue, the soggy rain returned. The cooler temperatures and clearing of wildfire smoke in the last week have signaled the coming of autumn. I’m delighted, as this is the time of year when I feel most engaged with the landscape.
